What tops a beautiful spring day off better than a piece of cake--or better yet, German Chocolate Cake? Nothing...unless perhaps it's two pieces! ;-)
My dear sister and I plotted and planned.... Scouting out the best recipes and attempting to contrive the best time to bake our masterpiece took us approximately 3 days. Oh! but was it worth the wait... The result was a lusciously moist and spongy cake and a scrumptious thick golden frosting.
Is your mouth watering yet? Here... I'll share some more photos...
you're welcome..
Alright, alright! I'll stop the torture and share the recipe with you all...
Chocolate Cake Recipe
3 cups of cake flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/3 cup of honey OR 2 cups of sugar, if you want it really sweet!)
4-5 heaping tablespoons of cocoa powder
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 tsp vanilla
2/3 cup of oil (coconut oil works wonderfully!)
2 cups of water or milk
Mix all of the ingredients together with a fork or a mixer on low. Bake at 350 F for 40 minutes or until done.

German Chocolate Cake Frosting Recipe
1 cup of evaporated milk
1/4 cup of honey OR 1 cup of brown sugar (if you want it really sweet!)
3 egg yolks
1/2 cup of butter (coconut oil worked wonderfully!)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup of chopped pecans
1 1/3 cup flaked/shredded coconut
Combine milk, sugar, egg, butter, and vanilla in a large sauce pan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until thick. (It thickens beautifully once cooled, so don't worry if it doesn't thicken too much while on the stove!) Remove from heat and stir in pecans and coconut. Let cool before spreading on cake.
I can't remember where I got the recipe from originally... :-/
And of course I'll leave you all with this tantalizing photo...
...and like always....you're welcome! ;-)
With Many Blessings!
I'm off to go eat another piece! But before I do, tell me how you like cake? What kind is your favorite?
Your "Bakeress",
Sonja
